Degrees & Curriculum
Degrees of initiation
This special individual’s training precedes the first initiation in the Order. This is a period in which you will gradually discover various aspects of our tradition. You will have the opportunity to meet initiates of the Order, directly in your area or in video-conference. This is a real opportunity to experiment and to learn with the support of a personal mentor.
At the end of the Pronaos, you will decide whether you want to ask for the initiation, and if so, the Order will consider your application. Validation of your request is not guaranteed and depends of several factors such as work, desire, and honesty.
First, Second, Third, and Fourth Grades
The degrees of the Aurum Solis are called "Halls." Each degree contains a precise individual curriculum that each companion (initiate) practices at home. This curriculum is mainly based on astrological cycles. As the progression is individual and based on this succession of ritual practices, the duration of the steps may vary.
Besides this practice, every companion should demonstrate his understanding of the Order, his personal moral standards, and his involvement in the Order’s activities.
1. The first grade is Neophytos (Neophyte). The proper title of this degree is “Apprentice of the Great Work.” This initiation takes place in a temple called the Temenos. The First Hall constitutes the Outer Order. A "magical name" is given to the new initiate during his initiation.
2. The second grade is Servitor (Server). The proper title of this degree is “Servitor of the Secret Flame.” This initiation takes place in a temple called the Telesterion. The Second Hall constitutes the Minor Mysteries.
3. The third grade is Adeptus Minor (Adept). The proper title of this degree is “Priest of the Gnosis.” This initiation takes place in a temple called the Naos. The Third Hall is where the Inner Order and the Greater (or Major) Mysteries begin, as the initiate opens the gates to the true Theurgic and Hermetic Tradition of the Egyptian Ptolemaic system.
This level is reached by personal accomplishment, allowing the initiate to reach the next grade.
4. The fourth grade is Adeptus Plenus (Full Adept). When the requirements for this degree are met, the Grand Master confers the direct initiation. After the curriculum of the Third Hall, the companions prepare the major operations of the Order under supervision. Of course, this is an individual work performed according to the individual’s progress. As stated by the previous Grand Master in the "charter of authority," the current Grand Master, Jean-Louis de Biasi, is the only one ever to have received the initiatic authority and the rituals of Adeptus Plenus. Consequently, he initiates at this degree. This step will allow the companion to go further in the path of High Magick. It provides retreat periods, allowing the student to complete some important functions in the Order and to go further in his own practice.
It is difficult to provide information on these advanced elements of the initiatic path. We can simply say that they are the heart of the theurgic path. Reading Iamblichus and the text of the Asclepius will bring a lot of light to these aspects.
The Adeptus Minor and Adeptus Plenus can also be involved with the Services of the Naos of the Order. These periods of activity are open only to those who receive a special invitation from the Collegium Cathedrarum.
In addition to the main curriculum, the Adeptus Minor and Adeptus Plenus conduct research on advanced topics proposed by the Collegium Cathedrarum. It can be (for example) a series of theoretical and experimental research projects on a particular system of initiation, whether magical or religious, perhaps something that has been forgotten in today’s world, etc., and these might come from documents found in the archives of the Order.
Other ritual works specific to the Aurum Solis are performed in the presence of the Grand Master; for example, the activities of the Collegium Cathedrarum, of the “Stella Gloriosa,” of the "Star Council," of the "Masters' Council" or of Ritual meetings.
Note: Even though this description of the three degrees makes it appear that they are separate in their functions, most of the ritual operations in the Houses of the Order are accomplished by all the Initiates of every degree working together. Of course, other rituals are restricted to the Initiates of the specific Halls.
Initiations are rituals performed for a candidate. They are individual and take place in a temple of the Order. They are intended to purify and empower the invisible bodies of the initiate, who is also introduced to the magical chain of the initiates and the egregore of the Aurum Solis. Even if it is obvious, we must state that these initiations are not deals with the devil or bad powers, neither do they imply any sacrifices. The rituals used by the Aurum Solis are rooted on the most authentic aspects of its theurgic tradition. Officers performing the ritual have been trained to work simultaneously on two levels: physical and invisible. The first initiation is followed by a ceremony of consecration of a personal Tessera that will link the new companion to the egregore of the Order. To learn more about initiation, you can see the related video here >
The elements of the curriculum are provided in several formats: private website, PDF, audio, video, and online meetings.
A document called "Your life as Initiate of the Aurum Solis" provides several teachings from the Aurum Solis and the guilds working under the auspices of the Order.
Specific rituals not directly linked to the curriculum are progressively provided to each companion. Among them we can find Rituals of the phases of the Moon, Solar cycles, Opus Philosophiae, Celestial Temenos, etc. Note that public versions of some of these rituals have been published in books by the Grand Masters. The Aurum Solis provides extensive versions restricted to initiates. Each step provides teachings, mandatory ritual practices, and sometimes theoretical researches, culminating in the sending of a report, and a quiz which must be successfully passed online. After consideration of the report and the success of this step, access is granted to the following step.
The First Hall mainly focuses on the following topics: Hermetic Qabalah, preparation of the magical tools, pathworkings of the Hermetic Tree of Life, learning of the philosophy and theology of our tradition, development of psychic abilities such as out-of-body experiences and advanced visualization, harmonization and ascent of the hermetic tree of life, Tarot of the Aurum Solis, consecration of magic tools, and more.
As previously stated, all these rituals and instructions are provided in an unpublished version restricted to the initiates of the Aurum Solis. Other rituals are practiced only in the House or during private seminars.
Associated topics and specializations: As explained on the "Heritage" page of this website, access to various Guilds and specialized classes are also provided to the initiates. As they are not part of the main curriculum, they are optional. Some of them are accessible only after a specific step of the curriculum, while others are accessible even to non-initiates.
Among them, the family rituals and seasonal rituals of the "Order of the Green Flame" are accessible from the second step of the First Hall. Individual initiations in the "Green Flame" are accessible, but the applications are validated individually by the Collegium Cathedrarum.
The religious rituals of the "Ecclesia Ogdoadica" are offered to the initiates and their family. The Priesthood is accessible upon request from the fourth step of the First Hall, while the High Priesthood is accessible from the seventh step.
Duration of the First Hall: As previously stated, the duration of the degree is individual. Nobody can progress in the degrees without the validation of his real work and understanding. However, we can say that with regular effort, the First Hall lasts approximately 30 months.
The elements of the curriculum are provided in the same formats as for the First Hall.
The Second Hall mainly focuses on the following topics: High consecration of the magical tools, adaptation and consecration of the Tessera, theurgic work on the elements, Hermetic planetary magic, Hermetic astrology, divination, theurgic rituals, Voces Magicae, Magical statues, Spagyrics, development of psychic abilities, and more. The main axis of this curriculum is the Neoplatonic ascent taught by the founding fathers of theurgy.
Associated topics and specializations: Various Guilds or specializations are still provided to the initiates: these are optional, not being. As they are not part of the main curriculum, they are optional. Some of them are only accessible only after a specific step of the curriculum of the Second Hall. For example, this is the caseThis is for example the case for the "Guild of Immortals" and the "Guild of the Flame-bearers." Initiation of the elements performed within the "Green Flame" and "Priesthood of the Gnosis" can be considered.
Duration of the Second Hall: As previously stated, the duration of the degree is individual, but we can say that the duration is based on astrological considerations and the principle of Neoplatonic ascent.
The elements of the curriculum are provided in the same formats as for the First Hall.
The Third Hall mainly focuses on the following topics: Ptolemaic magic, Theurgy, and High Magick. The main axis of this curriculum is the Egyptian religion and magic as practiced in the Mysteries of Thoth and Isis. Emphasis is placed on the Ptolemaic period and the Hermetic schools of Egypt and Syria.
Associated topics and specializations: Various Guilds or specializations are still provided to the initiates: these are optional, not being part of the main curriculum. Some are accessible only after a specific step of the curriculum of the Second Hall. This, for example, is the case for the "Guild of Immortals" and the "Guild of the Flame-bearers." Initiation of the elements performed within the "Green Flame" can be considered.
Duration of the Third Hall: As previously stated, the duration of the degree is individual.
