Traditionally, the Grand Master of Aurum Solis holds the titles “Druidic High Priest of the Celtic Mysteries of the Aurum Solis” and “Guardian of the Order of the Green Flame of Albion,” also known as the Order of the Green Flame (Lasair Uaine).

From its inception, Aurum Solis based much of its work on Celtic rituals and practices, particularly the ancient fire festivals of Imbolc, Bealteinne, Lughnasadh, and Samhuinn. These rites were celebrated annually.

Several Grand Masters also played an important role in the revival of Druidism. Thomas Maughan served as Chief Druid of England within the Druid Order and made a significant contribution to this revival. Among his students was David Loxley, who later led that Order.

Vivian Godfrey was one of the founding members of the Order of Bards, Ovates & Druids in the 1960s. When she returned to Britain in 1989 after spending several years in the United States, she was invited to succeed John Michell as Presider of the same Order she had belonged to some thirty years earlier. Godfrey held this position until her death in 1997.

In addition to the lineage inherited through Aurum Solis, the current Grand Master, Jean-Louis de Biasi, was received into the Druidic Tradition in France in the 1980s. He was subsequently initiated into various shamanic and Druidic lineages, which were later associated with the Celtic and Druidic tradition of Aurum Solis.

Shamanic rituals are a fundamental part of theurgic practice. Through the use of ancient musical instruments, dance, breathing techniques, trance states, and techniques for out-of-body experiences, initiates can journey through the spiritual world. These individual and group rituals predate Celtic civilization. Their roots can be traced to prehistoric times, and some are still practiced today in remote settings such as caves and mountains.

As it has from the beginning, the Order of the Green Flame remains one of the most important components of the Aurum Solis Tradition.

The Order of the Green Flame, which celebrates pre-Christian, Celtic, and Druidic festivals, is under the direct authority of the Grand Master, who alone may authorize the use of its rituals. Whenever these rituals are performed within Aurum Solis, they must be preceded by the Rota Fulgens Solis rite, which is reserved exclusively for this purpose.

The eight ancient festivals continue to be celebrated, sometimes with initiates’ families, including their spouses and children. Other rituals are performed only within an Aurum Solis group or during an Order seminar. Initiations based on the most ancient rituals, however, are rarely performed. They are offered and conferred exclusively by the Collegium Cathedrarum and are among the Order’s most secret and advanced rites.

Under certain conditions, candidates who are not initiates of Aurum Solis may be admitted to the Druidic degrees and celebrations of the Order of the Green Flame. Other shamanic practices are strictly reserved for Aurum Solis initiates, who are by that very fact members of the Stella Gloriosa. Some of these practices are also open to their families.
